Waxed Harrington Jacket | Flint and Tinder
We built the Flint and Tinder Waxed Harrington Jacket for guys who need a layer that works as hard as they do. This isn't your grandfather's dress jacket — it's a ruggedized take on the classic Harrington silhouette, wrapped in water-resistant waxed cotton canvas that weathers storms and develops character with every wear.
The fit stays true to the Harrington legacy: trim through the body with a collar that stands up to wind, slash pockets for cold hands, and a cropped hem that hits right at the waist. We manufacture every jacket in our American workshop using heavyweight 10 oz waxed cotton canvas, corduroy collar trim, and a breathable cotton lining. It's the jacket you'll reach for on spring mornings, cool summer nights, and fall days when the forecast says "maybe rain."
- 10 oz water-resistant waxed cotton canvas outer shell
- 100% cotton breathable body lining
- Corduroy-trimmed stand collar with snap throat tab
- Two slash hand pockets plus interior chest pocket
- Two-way brass zipper with snap-button storm placket
Waxed canvas construction & weatherproofing

The waxed cotton canvas we use on this jacket has been a workwear staple for over a century, and for good reason. Our 10 oz canvas starts as tightly woven cotton duck, then gets treated with a proprietary paraffin-based wax finish that repels water on contact while still allowing the fabric to breathe. Unlike synthetic shells that trap moisture and feel clammy, waxed cotton regulates temperature naturally.
The wax finish darkens slightly as you wear the jacket, creating high-wear patina on elbows, shoulders, and pocket edges. Rain beads off the surface when the wax is fresh; when water absorption increases after months of hard use, simply rewax the jacket with any canvas wax treatment to restore full weather resistance. The brass two-way zipper and snap storm placket provide double protection against wind-driven rain.
Fit, sizing & Harrington heritage

True-to-size athletic fit
We cut the Flint and Tinder waxed Harrington jacket with a trim athletic fit that follows your torso without feeling restrictive. The cropped length hits at your natural waist — shorter than a bomber or waxed trucker jacket, which gives you mobility for reaching, bending, and moving through your day. Ribbed cuffs and hem keep cold air from sneaking up your sleeves or under the jacket back.
Harrington DNA
The Harrington jacket originated in 1930s Britain as a golf jacket, later adopted by mods, skinheads, and every subculture that valued clean lines and functional design. Our version honors that history: stand collar with corduroy trim, raglan sleeves for shoulder mobility, slash pockets, and the signature umbrella-yoke back. We sized it to layer over a button-down or henley without bulk.
Care instructions for waxed cotton

Never machine wash or dry clean your waxed Harrington — both processes strip the protective wax coating and damage the canvas fibers. Instead, spot-clean mud or stains with a damp cloth and cool water, then air dry at room temperature away from direct heat.
For general dirt buildup, brush the jacket with a stiff bristle brush when dry. The wax finish will show wear patterns after 6-12 months of regular use; when water no longer beads on the surface, rewax the entire jacket using a canvas wax bar or liquid treatment. Hang the jacket on a sturdy hanger between wears to maintain shape and allow air circulation. The corduroy collar can be gently brushed to restore the nap.

Your questions about the Waxed Harrington
Our waxed Harrington runs true to size with a trim athletic fit through the body and cropped length at the natural waist. It's cut slightly roomier through the shoulders and chest than vintage British Harringtons to accommodate layering over button-downs or lightweight sweaters. Most customers find their normal jacket size fits perfectly; if you plan to layer heavy knits underneath, consider sizing up one.
The 10 oz waxed canvas is water-resistant, not fully waterproof. It will shed light to moderate rain for 30-60 minutes and repel splashes, mist, and brief showers. In sustained heavy rain, water will eventually soak through. The wax finish can be refreshed with canvas wax treatment to restore full water-shedding performance after months of use.
Yes, the breathable cotton construction and uninsulated design make this jacket suitable for cool summer evenings and air-conditioned indoor spaces. The waxed canvas does retain slightly more heat than unwaxed cotton, so we recommend it for temps below 75°F. It excels in spring and fall when temperatures range from 45-65°F.
When water stops beading on the surface, clean the jacket with a brush and apply canvas wax using a cloth or the wax bar itself, working in circular motions. Hang the jacket in a warm room or use a hairdryer on low heat to melt the wax into the fibers. One tin of canvas wax (sold separately) will rewax the jacket 3-4 times.
The Harrington has a cropped waist-length cut, stand collar with snap tab, and ribbed cuffs and hem for a classic mod silhouette. The trucker is longer (hip-length), features a traditional pointed collar, chest pockets, and adjustable side tabs. Both use the same 10 oz waxed canvas and American construction. Choose the Harrington for trim fit and mobility; choose the trucker for more coverage and pocket storage.
Yes, we cut, sew, and finish every waxed Harrington jacket in our American workshop. The waxed canvas, zippers, and some trim components are globally sourced, but all assembly and quality control happen domestically. Each jacket includes a sewn-in label identifying the production facility and craftspeople involved.
Hang the jacket on a wide wooden or padded hanger in a cool, dry closet with good air circulation. Avoid storing in plastic garment bags, which trap moisture and can cause mildew on waxed canvas. The included dust bag allows airflow while protecting from dust. Never fold or compress waxed canvas for extended periods, as this can crack the wax finish along creases.
