Flint and Tinder Mill Jacket – Heritage Canvas Workwear
Our Mill Jacket represents the intersection of vintage workwear heritage and modern durability. We constructed this piece using heavyweight 10 oz. cotton canvas that breaks in beautifully over time, developing a unique patina that tells your story. The classic silhouette draws inspiration from 1940s mill worker jackets, featuring a clean front with reinforced stress points and a comfortable fit that layers easily over shirts and sweaters.
We built this jacket in the USA with American materials, ensuring quality control at every step. The relaxed cut provides freedom of movement without excess bulk, making it ideal for both physical work and casual weekends. Four exterior pockets offer practical storage, while the corduroy collar adds subtle texture and warmth. Whether you're working on a project or heading out for the day, this jacket becomes more distinctly yours with every wear.

Canvas Construction & Material Details

We selected 10 oz. cotton canvas specifically for its ability to withstand daily wear while softening naturally over months of use. This mid-weight fabric provides excellent abrasion resistance without the stiffness of heavier duck canvas, striking an ideal balance for a jacket you’ll reach for year-round.
The pre-washed treatment means your flint and tinder mill jacket arrives ready to wear, with minimal break-in required. Canvas breathes well in warmer months and layers effectively under heavier coats when temperatures drop. Our brass hardware won’t rust or corrode, maintaining smooth operation through countless wears. For those seeking additional weather protection, our waxed mill jacket offers the same silhouette with water-resistant waxed canvas construction.
Sizing & Fit Guide

The Mill Jacket follows a relaxed, true-to-size fit inspired by vintage workwear proportions. We designed it to accommodate layering over button-up shirts and lightweight sweaters without feeling restrictive. The body length hits at the hip, providing coverage without interfering with movement.
Sleeves are cut with enough room to push up comfortably when working with your hands. If you prefer a slimmer silhouette, consider sizing down one size. Our chest measurements run approximately 2-3 inches larger than stated size for ease of movement. The jacket’s structure allows it to drape naturally across the shoulders without pulling or bunching.
Care & Maintenance

Washing Instructions
Machine wash cold on gentle cycle with like colors. We recommend washing the Mill Jacket inside-out to preserve the exterior finish. Use mild detergent and avoid bleach, which can weaken the canvas fibers over time.
Tumble dry low or hang to dry for best results. The canvas will continue to soften with each wash while maintaining its structural integrity. Remove promptly from the dryer to minimize wrinkles. Iron on medium heat if needed, though the jacket’s casual aesthetic means slight wrinkles add to its character. Spot clean minor stains with a damp cloth to reduce the frequency of full washes.

Mill Jacket Fit & Care Questions
The Mill Jacket runs true to size with a relaxed fit designed for layering. Chest measurements are approximately 2-3 inches larger than the stated size to allow comfortable movement over shirts and light sweaters. If you prefer a slimmer fit or plan to wear it primarily over t-shirts, we recommend sizing down one size. The shoulders and sleeve length follow standard proportions.
We pre-wash the canvas before construction, which minimizes shrinkage. You may notice minimal shrinkage (less than 1 inch) after the first home wash if tumble dried on high heat. To maintain the original fit, we recommend washing in cold water and tumble drying on low heat, or hang drying. The canvas will continue to soften with washing without significant dimensional change.
The standard Mill Jacket features 10 oz. cotton canvas with a natural finish, ideal for breathability and everyday wear. The Waxed Mill Jacket uses the same silhouette but treats the canvas with a water-resistant wax coating, making it more suitable for wet weather. The waxed version has a slightly stiffer hand initially and develops a unique patina as the wax wears. Both are made in the USA with identical construction quality.
The 10 oz. cotton canvas provides some natural water resistance and will handle light mist or brief drizzle, but it is not waterproof. For extended exposure to rain, we recommend our waxed canvas version which offers genuine weather protection. You can also apply a canvas waterproofing treatment to the standard Mill Jacket if you need occasional rain resistance while maintaining breathability.
The brass hardware will develop a natural patina over time, which we consider part of the jacket's character. If you prefer to maintain the original shine, simply wipe the brass with a soft cloth after wearing. For deeper cleaning, use a brass polish applied with a cotton swab, being careful to avoid getting polish on the canvas. The brass will not rust or corrode, ensuring long-term functionality.
The Mill Jacket works well as a layering piece in winter over sweaters or under heavier coats. The 10 oz. canvas provides moderate insulation and windproofing, making it suitable for fall and mild winter conditions on its own. For colder climates, we offer a flannel-lined version with additional insulation. The unlined version's versatility makes it a three-season jacket in most regions.
Your Mill Jacket arrives with a branded garment bag for storage and a care instruction card detailing washing and maintenance recommendations. We include information about our warranty and repair program, which covers manufacturing defects. The jacket is packaged to minimize wrinkles during shipping and arrives ready to wear thanks to our pre-washing process.
