Bone Button Western Shirt – Premium Chambray | Flint and Tinder

★★★★★4.8/5· thousands of reviews

We built our Bone Button Western Shirt for the guy who wants authentic Western style without the costume feel. This isn’t your grandfather’s pearl-snap rodeo shirt—we’ve refined the classic silhouette with premium chambray fabric and genuine bone buttons that nod to heritage craftsmanship.

The fabric starts as 100% cotton chambray that gets softer with every wash, developing character the way good denim does. We added thoughtful details like twin chest pockets with pointed flaps, contrast stitching that follows traditional Western patterns, and a tailored fit that works whether you’re headed to the office or a Saturday night out. This is the shirt you’ll reach for when you want to look put-together without trying too hard.

Fabric & Construction Details

Fabric & Construction Details

We source our chambray from one of the last remaining American mills that still weaves this traditional fabric. The 4.5 oz weight strikes the perfect balance—substantial enough to hold its shape and drape well, but light enough to wear comfortably spring through fall.

The flint and tinder bone button western shirt features French seams at the shoulders and side panels, a construction technique that encloses raw edges for durability and a clean interior finish. Our pattern cutters shaped the yoke to follow your shoulder line naturally, eliminating the stiff, boxy feel of cheaper Western shirts. Each bone button is hand-selected and secured with reinforced stitching that won’t pop loose after a few washes.

Sizing & Fit Guide

Sizing & Fit Guide

This shirt runs true to size with a tailored cut through the body and sleeves. If you’re between sizes or prefer a looser fit for layering, we recommend sizing up one. The shoulder seam should sit right at your natural shoulder point—not drooping down your arm.

Measurements by Size

A size Medium measures 21 inches pit-to-pit and 29 inches from back collar to hem. Sleeves are 25 inches from shoulder seam to cuff, designed to hit right at your wrist bone. We offer tall sizes (MT, LT, XLT) that add 2 inches to body length and 1 inch to sleeve length without changing the chest or shoulder dimensions. Our men’s shirt collection uses this same fit philosophy across styles, so if you know your size in one of our shirts, you’re set here too.

Care & Maintenance

Care & Maintenance

Machine wash cold with like colors—the chambray will soften beautifully over time. We pre-wash every shirt, so you’ll see minimal shrinkage (typically less than 1 inch in length). Skip the hot water and high heat in the dryer to keep the fabric from getting brittle.

For the bone buttons, avoid chlorine bleach which can discolor them over time. If you iron, use medium heat and press while the shirt is still slightly damp for easiest wrinkle release. The contrast stitching is colorfast, but washing inside-out for the first few cycles helps preserve the richness of the thread. With proper care, this shirt develops the kind of worn-in character that only improves with age.

Best western shirt I’ve owned
I bought this expecting a decent shirt and got something way better. The chambray is thick enough to feel quality but breathable in summer heat. The bone buttons are a nice touch that people actually notice. After six months of regular wear, it’s gotten softer without losing shape.

Finally—a western shirt that fits modern
Most western shirts make me look like I’m playing dress-up. This one has the classic details but fits like a real shirt, not a costume. I’m 6’1″ and the Large Tall fits perfect—long enough in the body and sleeves without being baggy.

Worth every penny for American-made quality
I’ll pay more for stuff made here, but it has to be worth it. This shirt absolutely is. The stitching is tight, the fabric feels substantial, and the buttons are real bone, not plastic painted to look like bone. This is how shirts should be made.

Great shirt, just size up if unsure
Love the look and quality, but it runs a bit trim through the chest and shoulders. I normally wear a Medium but should have gone Large for a more relaxed fit. The fabric has softened up beautifully after a few washes though.

Goes with everything in my closet
I was worried a western shirt would be too specific, but this works with jeans, chinos, even shorts in summer. The chambray color is neutral enough to pair with anything. It’s become my most-worn shirt this season.

Holds up to real use
I wear this for actual work on my property—not just looking good at breweries. After months of abuse, it still looks great. No buttons lost, no seams coming apart, no weird fading. That’s rare these days.

Your Questions About the Bone Button Western Shirt

This shirt follows our standard tailored fit—trim through the body and sleeves without being restrictive. It fits consistent with our other button-ups like the Oxford and the Chambray Work Shirt. If you wear a Medium in those, you’ll wear a Medium here.

The main difference is the Western-style yoke and slightly longer tails for tucking. If you prefer a roomier fit or plan to layer heavily underneath, size up one. Our tall sizes add length without changing chest or shoulder dimensions.

Yes, genuine bone buttons are actually more durable than plastic alternatives. We reinforce each button with double stitching to prevent loss. Bone is naturally resistant to cracking and holds up well to repeated washing.

Avoid chlorine bleach, which can discolor the buttons over time. Otherwise, normal machine washing is fine. We’ve tested these through 100+ wash cycles with no issues. If a button ever does come loose, any tailor can reattach it easily.

Absolutely. While the shirt has longer tails designed for tucking, the hem is curved and finished cleanly so it looks intentional when worn untucked. The length hits right at the top of your back pocket on most guys—long enough to stay put when you move but not so long that it looks sloppy.

We see customers wear it both ways depending on the occasion. Tucked looks sharp with chinos or denim, while untucked over a tee gives you an easy layered look.

We pre-wash every shirt before it ships, so you’ll see minimal shrinkage—typically less than 1 inch in length and almost nothing in the chest. Wash in cold water and tumble dry on low to medium heat to maintain size.

The fabric will continue to soften with each wash, but the dimensions stay stable. If you’re between sizes, the slight relaxation of the weave over time won’t move you up a full size.

Most western shirts are either cheap costume pieces or expensive ranchwear that’s too stiff for everyday use. We designed this as a modern take—keeping the classic Western details like pointed flaps and contrast stitching, but using premium chambray and a tailored fit that works in regular life.

The bone buttons instead of plastic snaps, American manufacturing, and attention to construction details set it apart from mass-market brands. It’s a shirt you can actually wear regularly, not save for special occasions.

Machine wash cold with like colors, tumble dry on low or line dry. The chambray will soften beautifully over time—that’s part of the appeal. Avoid hot water and high heat, which can weaken the fibers and cause premature wear.

Iron on medium heat while slightly damp if you want crisp creases, or skip the iron entirely for a more casual broken-in look. The contrast stitching is colorfast, but washing inside-out for the first few washes helps preserve the thread color. Store on a hanger to maintain shape between wears.

Yes, the 4.5 oz chambray is breathable enough for spring through early fall. It’s heavier than a thin summer shirt but lighter than flannel, which makes it versatile across seasons. The weave allows air circulation, and the cotton wicks moisture reasonably well.

For hot summer days, you might prefer something lighter, but for mild weather or air-conditioned environments, this hits the sweet spot. Many customers wear it as a layering piece in cooler months too—open over a tee or under a jacket.
