Flannel-Lined Waxed Trucker Jacket | Flint and Tinder

★★★★★4.8/5· thousands of reviews

Our Flint and Tinder flannel-lined waxed trucker jacket represents everything we believe in: American craftsmanship, materials that improve with age, and design that works as hard as you do. We start with heavyweight 10 oz waxed canvas that sheds light rain and wind while developing a rich patina over time.

The entire interior is lined with soft cotton flannel for warmth without bulk. Two chest pockets with button closures hold your essentials, while hand warmer pockets keep fingers comfortable when temperatures drop. The brass hardware and antique copper rivets aren't just for show — they're built to last decades of regular wear.

We manufacture this jacket in a family-owned facility in North Carolina, where skilled craftspeople cut, sew, and finish each piece by hand. The trim fit gives you room to layer a sweater underneath while maintaining a clean silhouette that works equally well on job sites or downtown.

Waxed Canvas Construction & Weather Protection

Waxed Canvas Construction & Weather Protection

We source our waxed canvas from one of the last remaining American mills specializing in this traditional fabric. The 10 oz weight strikes the perfect balance between durability and comfort — heavy enough to stand up to brush and weather, yet supple enough to move naturally from day one.

The paraffin wax treatment creates a hydrophobic barrier that causes water to bead and roll off the surface. Light rain and snow won’t penetrate, though we don’t recommend this jacket for sustained downpours. As you wear it, the wax will show creases and wear patterns that tell your story. You can refresh the water resistance anytime with a heat gun or by applying new wax.

Flannel Lining for Cold Weather Comfort

Flannel Lining for Cold Weather Comfort

The brushed cotton flannel lining transforms this from a three-season shell into a jacket you’ll reach for on genuinely cold days. We chose flannel specifically because it provides warmth through loft and air trapping, not synthetic insulation that compresses over time.

The lining extends through both the body and sleeves, creating consistent warmth distribution. Unlike quilted linings that can bunch or shift, our flannel is sewn continuously to the shell, maintaining its position through years of wear. The soft texture feels comfortable against everything from t-shirts to thick sweaters.

Sizing, Fit & Layering

Trucker Jacket Fit

We cut this jacket with a trim fit through the body and slightly shorter length that hits right at your belt line. This silhouette is true to classic trucker proportions — fitted enough to look sharp, with adequate room in the shoulders and chest for layering.

Most customers find their normal size works perfectly with a t-shirt or thin sweater underneath. If you regularly layer thick fleeces or hoodies, or prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up one. The jacket will relax slightly through the chest and shoulders during the first month of wear as the canvas breaks in.

Finally broke mine in after six months
I wore this jacket almost daily through fall and winter. The canvas was stiff at first but now moves with me like a second skin. The flannel lining kept me warm in 20-degree weather with just a t-shirt underneath. Worth every penny.

Best jacket I've ever owned
I work outdoors and needed something tough that also looked good off the clock. This handles both perfectly. The waxed canvas sheds rain, and the pockets actually hold tools without sagging. My wife says it's the only work jacket she doesn't mind me wearing to dinner.

Sizing advice: order your normal size
I'm 6'1" and 185 pounds, typically wear a large in everything. The large fits perfectly with room for a sweater but not baggy. The sleeves are the right length and the body hits exactly where a trucker jacket should.

Quality construction, needs break-in time
The craftsmanship is outstanding — you can see the quality in every stitch. Just know it will feel stiff for the first few weeks. Once it breaks in, it's incredibly comfortable. The flannel lining is softer than I expected.

Warmer than I expected from canvas
I was skeptical about how warm a canvas jacket could be, but the flannel lining really works. I wore this comfortably in 15-degree weather doing chores outside. The wind doesn't cut through it like my old denim jacket.

Love the patina it's developing
After eight months of wear, my jacket has developed this amazing worn look around the elbows and pockets. The wax is darker in some spots and lighter in others. It looks like I've owned it for years, which is exactly what I wanted.

Flannel-Lined Waxed Trucker Jacket Questions

The flannel lining provides insulation suitable for temperatures down to about 20°F when worn over a base layer. The cotton flannel traps warm air while the waxed canvas shell blocks wind, creating an effective barrier against cold weather.

For temperatures below 20°F, we recommend layering a sweater or hoodie underneath. The trim fit accommodates mid-weight layers without feeling restrictive. Many customers wear this as their primary winter jacket in moderate climates.

Fresh waxed canvas can transfer small amounts of wax to light-colored fabrics during the first few wears, especially in warm conditions. We recommend wearing darker layers underneath initially and avoiding light-colored furniture for the first week.

After the initial break-in period, wax transfer becomes minimal to nonexistent. If you do notice any marks on clothing, they typically wash out in cold water. The wax coating stabilizes quickly with regular wear and handling.

The waxed canvas provides excellent protection against light to moderate rain and snow. Water beads on the surface and rolls off rather than soaking through. However, this is not a fully waterproof rain jacket — sustained heavy downpours will eventually penetrate the fabric.

For serious wet weather, we recommend a dedicated rain shell. This jacket excels in mixed conditions where you're moving between drizzle, wind, and dry weather throughout the day. The breathable cotton canvas prevents the clammy feeling you get with sealed waterproof fabrics.

Hang your flannel-lined waxed trucker jacket on a sturdy hanger in a cool, dry place with good air circulation. Avoid storing it in plastic bags or sealed containers, as the wax coating needs to breathe and can develop an odor in enclosed spaces.

Don't fold the jacket for long-term storage, as this can create permanent creases in the waxed canvas. If you must pack it for travel, roll it loosely rather than folding. Keep it away from direct heat sources like radiators, which can soften or melt the wax finish.

We stand behind our American-made products with a quality guarantee. If you experience any defects in materials or workmanship, contact us and we'll make it right. Normal wear and tear — including the natural patina that develops on waxed canvas — is not covered, as these characteristics are inherent to the material.

We also offer repair services for damaged zippers, torn seams, or worn-out hardware. Many customers use our repair program to extend the life of their jacket well beyond the typical replacement cycle of mass-produced alternatives.

Most customers report that the Flint and Tinder flannel-lined waxed trucker jacket begins feeling noticeably more comfortable after 2-3 weeks of regular wear. The canvas softens and starts to mold to your body shape as the stiff fibers relax.

Full break-in typically occurs around the 3-6 month mark, depending on how frequently you wear it. The more you move in the jacket, the faster it conforms to your build. Activities like driving, working, and general daily wear accelerate the process compared to occasional use.

The flannel lining adds significant warmth, making this version suitable for cold weather down to about 20°F, while the unlined version works best as a three-season jacket for temperatures above 40°F. The lined version weighs approximately 8 ounces more and has a slightly fuller cut to accommodate the interior flannel.

Both jackets use the same 10 oz waxed canvas shell and identical construction details. Choose the lined version if you need a true winter jacket, or opt for the unlined trucker if you live in a milder climate or prefer a lighter weight shell for layering.
