Premium Canvas Construction

Premium Canvas Construction

The foundation of our Mason jacket is genuine 10 oz. waxed cotton canvas sourced from American mills. This isn’t the thin, flimsy canvas you’ll find on imported alternatives — it’s substantial fabric that resists tears, repels water, and softens naturally as you wear it.

Our waxing process saturates every fiber with a paraffin-based treatment that sheds light rain and wind while allowing the fabric to breathe. Unlike synthetic waterproof coatings that crack and peel, waxed canvas improves with age and can be re-treated at home when needed. The result is outerwear that becomes uniquely yours, bearing the marks of real work and real adventures.

Sizing and Fit

Sizing and Fit

We designed the Mason with a trim, contemporary fit that layers comfortably over a shirt or light sweater without the bulky silhouette of traditional work jackets. The pattern allows full range of motion through the shoulders and arms while maintaining clean lines through the body.

Size Chart

Small fits chest 34-36″, Medium fits 38-40″, Large fits 42-44″, X-Large fits 46-48″, and XX-Large fits 50-52″. The jacket runs true to size with enough room for layering. Length is designed to hit at the hip for coverage without riding up during movement. Sleeve length accommodates 95% of wearers without alterations, and adjustable cuff buttons let you customize the fit at the wrist.

Care and Maintenance

Care and Maintenance

Your Flint and Tinder Mason Canvas Work Jacket requires minimal care but rewards attention. Spot clean dirt and stains with a damp cloth and mild soap — avoid machine washing, which strips the wax coating and can weaken seams. For deeper cleaning, hand wash in cold water and hang dry away from direct heat.

The waxed finish will naturally wear in high-friction areas over time, creating character and patina. When water no longer beads on the surface, re-wax using a quality canvas wax product applied evenly with a clean cloth. Warm the fabric gently with a hair dryer to help the wax penetrate, then buff with a clean rag. Store your jacket on a wide hanger in a cool, dry place to maintain its shape between seasons.

Finally, a work jacket that works
I've been wearing my Mason jacket daily for six months on construction sites and it still looks fantastic. The waxed canvas shrugs off rain and the pockets actually hold my tools securely. Best part is I can wear it to dinner without looking like I just left the job site.

Worth every penny
I hesitated at the price but after wearing cheaper jackets that fell apart in a season, I'm convinced this was the right call. The construction quality is immediately obvious and it's only getting better with age.

Perfect fit and function
I ordered my usual Large and the fit is spot-on — trim without being restrictive. I can layer a hoodie underneath when it's cold and still move freely. The attention to detail is impressive for American-made gear at this price point.

Breaks in beautifully
The jacket was stiff out of the box but after two weeks of wear it's molded to my body and moves with me. The waxed canvas is developing character already. Only wish is that it came in more colors, but the brown is versatile.

Exceeded my expectations
I bought this for yard work and weekend projects but I find myself reaching for it constantly. It's become my go-to jacket for everything from hardware store runs to casual evenings out. The quality really shines through.

Built like they used to make them
This reminds me of the workwear my grandfather wore — serious construction that's meant to last decades, not seasons. The triple-stitched seams and brass hardware tell you immediately this isn't throwaway fashion. I'm confident I'll be wearing this for years.

Mason Canvas Work Jacket Questions

The waxed canvas finish provides excellent water resistance for light to moderate rain and will bead water effectively when new. It's not a waterproof rain shell, but it handles weather far better than untreated canvas or cotton. The wax treatment penetrates the fabric fibers rather than coating the surface, so it won't crack or peel over time.

As you wear the jacket, high-friction areas like elbows and shoulders will naturally lose some wax coating. When you notice water no longer beading on the surface, simply re-treat those areas with canvas wax to restore full weather protection. Most users find they need to re-wax once or twice per year depending on use.

The Mason features our heaviest 10 oz. canvas and a modern slim fit designed to work in both professional and casual settings. It has a cleaner silhouette than traditional chore coats while maintaining full functionality with four exterior pockets and reinforced construction.

Our waxed trucker jacket offers a more relaxed fit with fleece lining for colder weather, while the chore coat provides a looser, vintage-inspired cut. The Mason sits in the middle — substantial enough for real work but tailored enough for everyday wear.

The waxed canvas will soften and conform to your body over time but won't stretch significantly like denim or wool. This is why proper initial sizing is important — the jacket you receive will maintain approximately the same dimensions throughout its life.

If you follow our care instructions and avoid machine washing, you won't experience shrinkage. The canvas is pre-shrunk during manufacturing and the wax treatment stabilizes the fibers. Hand washing in cold water and air drying maintains the original fit.

While it's technically possible to remove wax through repeated hot washing, we don't recommend it because the jacket is designed and constructed specifically for waxed canvas performance. The weight, hand feel, and structure of the fabric all work together with the wax coating.

If you prefer unwaxed canvas, we suggest exploring our standard canvas jacket options which are built with different fabric weights and finishes optimized for that style. The Mason is engineered as waxed canvas outerwear from the start.

The Mason runs slimmer and more tailored than traditional American workwear brands like Carhartt or Dickies. If you typically wear a Large in those brands and prefer their roomy fit, you may want to size up to an XL in the Mason for similar ease.

Our fit is closer to contemporary menswear — trim through the body with enough room to layer a shirt or thin sweater, but without excess fabric bunching at the waist. Check our detailed size chart and consider ordering your usual size if you prefer modern fits, or size up if you want traditional workwear room.

The YKK brass zipper and metal snap closures will develop a natural patina over time as the brass oxidizes. This is a feature, not a flaw — the aging brass complements the worn-in look of the waxed canvas beautifully.

If you prefer to maintain the original brass finish, you can occasionally polish the hardware with a brass cleaning cloth. Most of our customers embrace the patina as part of the jacket's character, similar to how the canvas itself ages and develops unique wear patterns.

The Mason works perfectly over button-up shirts, henleys, or lightweight sweaters for spring and fall wear. In winter, you can comfortably layer a hoodie or vest underneath — the cut provides enough room through the chest and shoulders without looking oversized.

For the coldest conditions, consider our flannel-lined version which adds substantial warmth without requiring heavy layering. The standard Mason excels as a three-season jacket that you can adapt to temperature changes through smart layering rather than built-in insulation.
